Here are all the bank holiday days in Spain for 2023
Each community in Spain will enjoy at least five long weekends next year
Every year in Spain there are a total of 14 compulsory holiday or red days, and 2023 is no exception.
These are made up of:
- 8 days which are mandatory across the country and can’t be substituted by regional governments, unless they fall on a Sunday
- 4 days that can be moved around at the discretion of the local authorities
- 2 holidays that are chosen by each city council
In 2023, every community in Spain will enjoy at least five long weekends, with the Friday and Monday mandatory days off throughout the country. These are:
- Friday April 7 (Good Friday)
- Monday May 1 (May Day/Labour Day)
- Friday December 8 (Immaculate Conception)
- Monday December 25 (Christmas Day)
- Friday January 6 (Three Kings’)
On top of these national holidays, several regions have chosen to add an extra one or two long weekends:
- Aragón (Community Day, Monday April 24)
- Asturias (Community Day, Friday September 8)
- Cantabria (Day of the Institutions, Friday July 28 and the Day of the Well, Friday September 15)
- Catalonia (Diada, Monday September 11)
- Valencian Community (Day of the Community, Monday October)
- Extremadura (Community Day, Friday September 8)
- Murcia (Day of the Region, Friday June 9)
- La Rioja (Community Day, Friday June 9)
- Ceuta (End of Ramadan, Friday April 21)
Since Easter/Holy Week falls on Thursday April 6 and Friday 7, all of the regions in Spain (bar Catalonia) have decided to also make Holy Thursday a holiday. As Easter Monday on April 10 is also a holiday, La Rioja, the Basque Country and Navarra have opted to join both celebrations and enjoy a 5-day puente.
Madrid also gains an extra bank holiday weekend this year thanks to May Day, the national holiday coinciding with May 2, the capital’s Community Day.
