ARCHIVED - Horror in the Costa Dorada as psychotic teenager gouges out the eyes of a Cambrils hotel porter
The 17-year-old had not been diagnosed with any mental disorder
Details have emerged of a horrendous attack which took place this week in Cambrils, in the southern Catalan province of Tarragona, where a 17-year-old suffered an attack of psychosis during which he gouged out the eyes of a hotel porter before being arrested by the Mossos d’Esquadra.
The incident occurred at around midnight on Tuesday at the 4-star Hotel Estival El Dorado, where the guest from L'Hospitalet de Llobregat in Barcelona suddenly turned on his own mother. She fled the room to seek help from a friend who then became the second target for the teenager’s violence, but the worst was suffered by a 62-year-old hotel porter who heard the commotion and arrived to investigate.
The crazed youngster beat him unconscious and savagely ripped out his eyes while his mother was calling the 112 emergency services line, and the victim was reported to be in “very serious” condition in hospital.
Eventually Mossos officers managed to subdue the attacker and give him a sedative, but not before one of them received several blows to the face.
It is reported that the teenager had not been diagnosed with any mental disorder although he had suffered similar attacks in the past.
