ARCHIVED - Hot and sunny weekend ahead: Andalucia weather forecast August 18-21
Parts of Andalucia are set to sizzle in incredible 39ºC heat over the coming days

Most of Andalucia has enjoyed a week of unseasonably low temperatures but all good things must come to an end and the thermometers are due to shoot back up again this coming weekend.
The change subtly began on Thursday August 18, when “a change in the surface wind” hiked the mercury to 38ºC inland, which coastal areas remained relatively cool.
According to the director of the Meteorological Center in Malaga, Jesús Riesco, when "the entry of a warmer air mass occurs and the surface wind regime changes, moving to the east, temperatures will gradually rise in the interior of Andalusia, while they will drop on the Andalusian Mediterranean coast until they reach normal values."
And so it is that on Friday August 19, the mercury will continue to rise throughout the community with the exception of Malaga, where day-time temperatures will actually drop to a pleasant 30ºC, while the likes of Seville and Cordoba will sizzle in 37ºC heat. Cádiz is also on a yellow level alert for choppy seas.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Friday
Almeria: 21ºC minimum; 32ºC maximum
Cádiz: 23ºC; 32ºC
Granada: 16ºC; 35ºC
Malaga: 23ºC; 30ºC
Seville: 20ºC; 37ºC
The thermometers will continue to climb on Saturday August 20, inching up another degree or so along the coast. With these high temperatures it’s likely that some weather warnings will be issued, but at the moment Aemet hasn’t activated any alerts. The day will be mostly clear with the winds easing off along the Mediterranean coast and in Cádiz.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Saturday
Almeria: 22ºC minimum; 34ºC maximum
Cádiz: 24ºC; 32ºC
Granada: 18ºC; 37ºC
Malaga: 23ºC; 31ºC
Seville: 20ºC; 37ºC
Another slightly cloudy or clear day is forecast for Sunday August 21 with morning mists hanging over the Mediterranean coast. Night-time temperatures will mercifully drop in Cádiz but will remain unchanged in the rest of the region. During the day the mercury will dip a little along the coast while rising in Malaga, and Seville and Granada are set to blister in 39ºC.
