ARCHIVED - Hurricane Danielle unlikely to hit Spain: Weather forecast September 5-8
An Atlantic storm will bring rain and wind to northern Spain while the south basks in pleasant temperatures
Hurricane Danielle is still lurking off the coast of Spain, but fortunately Aemet meteorologists believe it’s chances of touching down on the mainland are less than 10%. If the storm does hit, it’s likely to descend on Galicia on Monday September 5, which is already on alert for abundant and persistent rain. The precipitation could move further south as the afternoon progresses towards Castilla y León, Navarra, northern Aragón and Catalonia, and it’s going to be an overcast and showery day throughout the Balearic Islands.
In the rest of the country, Monday will be a little cloudy with temperatures remaining pleasant in the low 30s for the most part, although Malaga and the Region of Murcia are set to hit 36ºC and 37ºC, respectively.
There are no weather warnings in place for Tuesday September 6 although the lingering Atlantic storm will bring yet more rain and strong gusts to the north of the country. Daytime temperatures are set to rise along the south and east coasts, dropping in the north and the Canary Islands.
After weeks of torrid nights, the minimum temperatures will also remain relatively cool for the most part, with the exception of Andalucia and the Valencian Community, where the thermometers will remain in the low to mid 20s.
Moving on to Wednesday September 7, very little change is expected. Much of the north will remain overcast with the chance of showers or heavy rain while the southern part of the country will be mostly clear with some morning cloudiness. The mercury will climb by a degree or two along the Mediterranean coast with little change in other areas.
The evolution of Hurricane Danielle is still a little uncertain and the forecast for later in the week is still provisional, but Aemet predicts that Thursday September 8 will bring cloudy intervals and weak showers to the north of Spain. The rest of the country could be a little overcast in the morning, clearing to the southeast and towards the Balearic Islands.
There will be no great changes to either day or night-time temperatures, although a west or south-westerly breeze will cool things a little in the southern Mediterranean coast.
