Slight increase in ICU occupancy rate in Spain
With the Spanish government poised to begin administering the fourth coronavirus vaccine to people over the age of 80, the health data has started to show improvements once more and the incidence rate in over 60s has dropped eight points after rebounding slightly last week.
Coronavirus infections
The Ministry of Health has registered 42,456 new cases of coronavirus in its latest report on Friday June 10, just slightly fewer than the 42,989 infections notified on the same day last week. Of these, 20,836 cases have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
These new cases bring the total number of infections in Spain since the beginning of the pandemic to 12,478,994.
Cumulative incidence rate
After rebounding slightly earlier last week, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate in over 60s has dropped by 8 points to stand at 578.39 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Andalucia continues streets ahead of the other autonomous communities, reducing its 14-day incidence to just 264 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Every region in Spain has now dipped below the 1,000-case barrier, but the highest average infection rate is now found in Madrid (922 cases).
Great strides have been made in the Region of Murcia, where the incidence has dropped to 463 cases while the data is also improving in the Valencian Community (404 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).
In the past two weeks, a total of 71,246 positives have been registered in this age group.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 6,412 patients hospitalised and positive for Covid throughout Spain (down from 6,761 on Tuesday) while 325 people are being treated in the ICU (322 on Tuesday).
These figures mean that 5.3% of all hospital beds are occupied by coronavirus patients (down from 5.48%) while the occupancy rate in intensive care has increased ever so slightly from 3.62% on Tuesday to 3.65% today.
An additional 194 deaths were logged in Friday’s report, compared to 304 last week. This brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 107,108.
Covid testing
Between May 31 and June 6, the autonomous communities have carried out 150,937 diagnostic tests in people over 60 years of age. This has resulted in a positivity rate of 29.7%.
Vaccination data
As of June 10, a total of 39,087,670 people, representing 92.7% of the population over the age of 12, have been double jabbed, while 93% or 39,235,362 people have received their first vaccination.
