Indian summer continues across Spain: Weather forecast Sept 28-Oct 1
The mercury will bounce back to summer-like temperatures in many parts of Spain this weekend
We’re heading into October this weekend amid sunny skies and dry, balmy days and the forecast for the last couple of days of the month indicates that much of Spain could be in for record-breaking temperatures.
Between Friday and Sunday, meteorologists expect the thermometers to hit a summer-like 36ºC in the extreme south, with the likes of Murcia not trailing too far behind, at 35ºC.
In general, the temperatures this weekend will be between 5 and 10 degrees higher than normal for this time of year, according to weather expert Marta Almarcha, who believes Spain is in for “a very special year.”
“These are atypical temperatures,” she said, adding that if the forecasts play out, several “records could be broken.”
Thursday September 28
Few big changes are expected temperature-wise on Thursday, although the thermometers will begin to creep up compared to earlier in the week, particularly in the southwest of the country. Overall, the stable weather will continue with mostly clear skies dotted with some high clouds.
Galicia is the only region where the day looks set to be overcast, and some weak rainfall could fall in the area around Fisterra. There’s also a small chance of light showers in the west of the Canary Islands.
Friday September 29
Most of Spain and the Balearic Islands will remain bright and sunny on Friday but the skies will continue to darken to the north, where weak rain and drizzle are forecast. The early morning could be rather overcast in the Mediterranean too but this should clear quickly.
Daytime temperatures will increase across the board, more markedly in western Spain and in the midlands of the Canary Islands, reaching higher than normal values for this time of year. It’s expected that the thermometers will hit 35ºC in the valleys of the southwest.
Episodes of strong easterly winds have placed parts of Andalucia, near Cadiz and the Strait of Gibraltar, on yellow alert for rough seas from 6pm.
Saturday September 30
The final day of September will be unseasonably warm, although the mercury could fall by a degree or two in the southwest, although they will still hover around 33-35ºC. Temperatures will continue to increase in northern Spain and the Canary Islands.
Very few changes otherwise compared to Friday. Andalucia remains on yellow alert throughout the day for choppy seas.
Sunday October 1
As we enter October the dry, stable weather continues with no more than a few morning fog banks and early cloud cover forecast in the north. In the Canary Islands, however, occasional heavy showers and even stormy intervals are a possibility in mountainous areas.
Temperatures will continue to increase in general throughout Spain, except in the extreme north of the country, where the maximum temperatures will decrease. They will remain above normal values ​​for the time in almost the entire country, exceeding 32-34ºC in areas of the Canary Islands, the southern Atlantic slope and the middle Ebro.
Andalucia remains on yellow alert throughout the day for choppy seas.
