Air travel can be a stressful ordeal at the best of times, which is why luggage storage company Bounce decided to produce a list of the 10 worst airlines of 2021 so that travellers can make an informed decision before booking their next trip.
By looking at issues such as the comfort of the seats, the quality of the food, punctuality and hand luggage rules, in addition to the number of customer complaints, Bounce has put together a useful list of the airlines that definitely need to be avoided.
A bad ranking can be make or break for aviation companies, something WOW Air found out the hard way; in March 2019, it was rated as the worst airline in the world and folded shortly after. Portuguese airline TAP looks likely to follow suit, as it has racked up an impressive 1,430 customer complaints in just six months.
The worst airlines in the world
1. Viva Air (Colombia)
2. Viva Aerobus (Mexico)
3. Volaris Airlines (Mexico)
4. Ryanair (Ireland)
5. Interjet (Mexico)
6. Vueling Airlines (Spain)
7. EasyJet (UK)
8. Ukraine International Airline (Ucrania)
9. TAP (Portugal)
10. Gol Airlines (Brazil)
The best airlines
On the opposite end of the scale sits Japan’s All Nippon Airways, which scored top marks in all categories and is the only airline that received five out of five when it comes to customer service. After the Japanese company, Singapore Airlines and Korean Air Lines were the highest rated by Bounce.
The Bounce raking is just one of many systems used to rate airlines and each has its own merits, but one thing is for sure: ending up on several of these lists is a fairly strong indication that the company is doing something wrong. Looking at a few different models gives travellers the clearest idea of which airlines are really the worst, and Irish carrier Ryanair, Spanish airline Vueling, along with EasyJet, have showed up on every recent ranking.
