ARCHIVED - Irish tourist, 20, seriously injured in fall from Mallorca hotel balcony
The holidaymaker is believed to have been heavily intoxicated when he plunged from the terrace
A 20-year-old Irish holidaymaker is in a serious condition after plunging from a third floor balcony at the four-star TRH Jardin del Mar Beach Hotel in the Mallorca party resort of Santa Ponsa.
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 4.30am on Saturday morning, July 2 and found the injured tourist at the back of the building, wedged between the hotel and an adjoining wall. Paramedics worked on the young man for around 25 minutes to stabilise him before transferring the patient to Son Espases Hospital, where he is understood to be undergoing treatment for head injuries.
A spokesperson for the Local Police confirmed: “We are investigating an incident in which a 20-year-old tourist plunged from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Santa Ponsa.

“He has been taken to Son Espases Hospital in Palma.”
According to official sources, investigators believe that the holidaymaker was heavily intoxicated as he told emergency responders that he was being chased at the time of the fall.
Incidents such as this are becoming increasingly common in Spain’s so-called party hotspots and the authorities have implemented many regulations and hefty fines to crack down on “drunken tourism”.
At the beginning of May, a 50-year-old Irish man suffered a serious fall from a second-floor apartment in Santa Ponsa and a few days later a 31-year-old British holidaymaker plunged to his death from the seventh floor of a Magaluf hotel.
