Irish tourist, 34, found dead in Ibiza hotel room
The Irish man was on holiday in Spain with friends when he died
A 34-year-old Irish holidaymaker has been found dead in his hotel room while on vacation with friends in the Ibiza party resort of San Antonio. Sources close to the investigation claim that police believe the young man’s death may be drug related but a post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of the tragedy.
Early reports indicated that the deceased was British but officials have since clarified that the man was actually from Ireland.
A spokesperson for the Guardia Civil clarified: “I can confirm we are investigating the death of an Irish national at a hotel in San Antonio in Ibiza.
"The autopsy will help investigators determine the cause of death."
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said: "The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and providing consular assistance.
"As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."
Just last month another tourist from the UK died in the same resort when he fell from a second-floor balcony. A large quantity of illegal drugs was found in his room after the accident.
It later transpired that the victim has cheated death five years before after plunging from a 30-foot terrace and becoming impaled on a sun umbrella.
And earlier this month, on August 4, a 33-year-old British male was found in the water off the Cala Jondal beach in San José on the island of Ibiza, presumably having drowned.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.15pm after lifeguards pulled him onto a boat and tried to revive him, but when paramedics arrived and performed CPR he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
