Is it really possible to do your tax returns in Spain yourself?
Yes, you can do your Spanish tax declaration online… but it’s not the easiest way
Taxpayers in Spain have until July 1, 2024 to file their income tax returns – the Impuesto sobre la Renta de Personas Físicas or IRPF for short.
This declaration of earnings in Spain is obligatory for nearly everyone, including foreign nationals and those who are not full residents in Spain in most cases.

To do your Spanish tax declaration, first you need to know when each way of doing the tax returns can be completed.
It is possible to declare your income in Spain for the year 2023 in person, by phone or online, and each one has a different window in which you can do it.

Do your Spanish IRPF tax returns 2024 online
The most popular way to file your income tax declaration in Spain is online on the official Agencia Tributaria tax office website, where you will need a personal digital identification certificate.
However, as the tax rules change from year to year and there are many special dispensations that variously affect non-national residents and non-residents, trying to do your tax declaration in Spain yourself is far from the easiest or most comfortable option for many people.
The tax returns system in Spain (and all red tape, for that matter) is a labyrinth of forms, confusing jargon and highfalutin Spanish that even many Spaniards cannot decipher. That’s why most people trust a qualified, professional tax advisor to do their tax returns for them each year, for a small fee. This is by far the easiest and most stress-free way of doing your tax returns.
