Issac Peral museum in Cartagena finally set to open its doors to the public after 4 years of renovations
The Isaac Peral House will display objects, documents and models from the collection of the man himself
The museum which will exhibit the life and work of Cartagena inventor Issac Peral, in the house in which he was born, finally has an opening date. The date which has been given is spring 2025, and despite the number of setbacks, the project is in its final phase of completion.
Isaac Peral, native of Cartagena, is remarkable for having invented the first electric submarine and is a favoured son of both the city and the Region of Murcia as a whole.
The Cartagena city council, who has claimed that the setbacks to the project have been out of their control, wish to inaugurate the museum somewhere between May and June of next year. The mayor of Cartagena has assured the population of Cartagena that “many problems arose but they are now resolved”.
The project began all the way back in February 2021, but had to be stopped due to modifications or because the works were halted by the company in charge of carrying it out. Since then there have been even more inconveniences that have halted the opening of the museum.
However, the project now seems to be in its final phase and once open will display objects, documents, images, plans and models from the life of Isaac Peral.
In addition to his family life, represented by preserved objects such as photographs or painted portraits that have been donated by Diego Quevedo, the museum will take visitors to the bottom of the ocean, inviting them to delve deeper into Isaac Peral’s scientific side by exploring models and scale models used by the inventor.
Moreover, Peral’s great-grandson and namesake, Isaac Peral Delgado, has donated several personal objects, as well as a publication of the time and an administrative document, about the transfer of Isaac Peral’s coffin from Germany to Spain.
