Italian man arrested for raping British tourist in Mallorca
The victim was allegedly assaulted on a beach near the holiday resort of Magaluf
A young Italian man in his 20s has been arrested for the suspected rape of a British tourist in Mallorca.
The alleged attack took place during the early hours of April 11 after the pair had been drinking together at a cocktail bar in Palmanova, which borders the holiday resort of Magaluf. According to the victim, she was very intoxicated at the time and when the bar closed, the Italian man lured her to a nearby beach and raped her.
The following morning, the British woman reported the attack to the Guardia Civil. Using CCTV footage, the officers identified the alleged aggressor as an Italian who is a resident of Calvià, and he was immediately arrested and taken in for questioning.
It comes after police on the island reported last week that they have initiated an investigation into the suspected gang-rape of a Brazilian woman at a rental property located in Playa de Palma, near the capital of Mallorca.
Four Italian men, ranging from 24 to 27 years old, were taken into custody in connection with the alleged assault and subsequently placed in detention pending trial.
And at the beginning of this month, three men were sentenced to more than eight years in prison each for the brutal gang rape of a British tourist in Benidorm.
