January 13 Free guided tour of the historic town centre of Aguilas
Discover how Águilas has attracted settlers and developed over the course of its history!
This tour, which is easy to manage for those of limited mobility, reveals to those joining it a little of the history of Águilas, taking in the port (with comments on the castle and the lighthouse of Punta Negra), the Plaza de España and various important monuments and buildings, such as the Ícaro (Carnival monument), the Monument to the Railway, the Archaeological Museum, the Roman baths, the Carnival museum and the church of San José in the Plaza de España.
The tour begins at the Tourist Office at 11.00 and lasts approximately two and a half hours. Bookings should be made online here as of approximately one month prior to the date of the event.
The route is suitable for those of limited mobility as it involves no stairs or significant uphill or downhill sections.
In the course of its long and interesting history the natural resources of Águilas attracted prehistoric settlers, then the Romans and finally the British (!), all of whom found different reasons to establish settlements in the municipality and exploit the local minerals, fish and grasses.
This visit is free, leaving you a little cash in your pocket to enjoy eating out in the town afterwards or staying for the weekend – the tourist office will be happy to provide you with details of where a good lunch can be obtained and accommodation details, and should always be your first port of call when visiting Águilas!
