ARCHIVED - Juan Carlos I in Lorca closed to traffic this Friday March 24

ARCHIVED ARTICLE -

The Lorca street will be blocked off for the weekend while the Easter stands are being erected

ARCHIVED - Juan Carlos I in Lorca closed to traffic this Friday March 24
As Lorca kicks into high gear for the 2023 Easter celebrations, the Local Police have issued a notice reminding people that Avenida Juan Carlos I will be closed off to all public traffic from 7am on Friday March 24 to allow officials time and space to install the stands.

These boxes will be set up along the street so that locals and visitors can enjoy all of the Semana Santa processions, and Juan Carlos I will remain closed to vehicles throughout the weekend in order to expedite the work as much as possible.

The assembly will be carried out from early morning until 7pm, according to Local Police Commissioner José Antonio Sansegundo, who added that a single lane of traffic would be open in the direction of Murcia but this is for the use of authorised personnel only.

"From this Monday, the cards that will allow access to residents who have parking on Avenida de Juan Carlos I are being distributed to the communities of owners," he clarified.

The crossings will also be closed off on Wednesday April 5 as the stands are installed in all the car parks but to ease traffic flow, from Thursday March 30 vehicles will be allowed to drive in both directions on Santa Clara Avenue, between the Puente Nuevo and the Puente Viejo del Barrio.

"The parking lots will be removed in that area to allow double circulation," he said.

The mayor of Citizen Security, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, added that two new car parks will be created to accommodate the influx expected during Holy Week; a total of 13,000 parking spots will be available for the duration in 30 well signposted locations.
