July 20 Night hike in the mountainous area of Hondares near Caravaca de la Cruz
A 6-hour trek in the foothills and gorges of the mountains of north-west Murcia
As part of their sporting and leisure activities for the summer of 2024 the Town Hall of Caravaca de la Cruz has organized two night-hiking walks, the second of which takes place on Saturday July 20 in and around the tiny hamlet of Hondares, between Caravaca and Moratalla.
The countryside and landscape in this area are especially beautiful and feature a ravine through which the River Segura runs on its way to the city of Murcia and the coast in Guardamar, in the province of Alicante.
The walkers from Caravaca will leave by coach at 10.00 from the Plaza Elíptica and on arriving in Hondares will take on a long 17-kilometre route which should only be tackled by regular and experienced hill and mountain walkers. The ground is unstable in places and the terrain rocky, and the walk is expected to last some 6 hours, with climbs and descents of around 550 metres.
Registration for this event costs 6 euros for non-federation of mountaineering and hiking members (4 euros for members) members and can be completed online at sporttia.cm, in person at the office of the municipal swimming pool, by telephone on 9678 703563 or by email to deportes@caravacadelacruz.es.
