ARCHIVED - Jumilla forest fire contained and should be extinguished shortly
Firefighters battled the Jumilla blaze throughout the night without incident

The frightening wildfire which has blazed through the Murcia municipality of Jumilla over the weekend has been brought under control, according to the local Emergency Department, and firefighters expect to have the flames completely extinguished before too long more.
Four forestry brigades (two from the Region of Murcia and another two from Castilla-La Mancha) remained on the ground overnight and will continue to work all day; thankfully, no incidents have been reported in the affected area.
The wildfire, which has already burned through more than 400 hectares of land, was stabilised on Sunday afternoon, August 14, at which time the Advanced Command Post was dismantled, leaving the remaining firefighting efforts in the hands of the Director of Operations, according to protocol.
The unrelenting heatwaves of late, coupled with strong winds and a lack of rain, have sparked dozens of violent forest fires all across Spain, devastating farmland and crops and forcing thousands of people to be evacuated from their homes.
Just last week, a huge blaze ripped through a palm grove in Camino de Enmedio in Orihuela, skirting dangerously close houses and businesses in the hamlet and resulting in an as yet undisclosed number of injuries.
