ARCHIVED - June 24 to 26 Summer folklore festival in San Javier
The 32nd edition of the annual event opens the summer festival season on the shore of the Mar Menor
In terms of cultural festivals the municipality of San Javier is perhaps best known for its Jazz Festival, which is this year being held in July (see the list of concerts below this article), but others include the international dance and drama festival in August and the Folklore festival, which is usually held in late June.
The first event of this year’s Festival is being held on Friday June 24, the evening after the Night of San Juan, with a gala in honour of the folk music and dance of the Region of Murcia at 22.00 in the Plaza de España.
This is followed on June 25 by guest groups from Mexico, who will enjoy their own gala in the Plaza de España, before on Sunday 26th June the festival ends with performances on the Paseo Colón in Santiago de la Ribera, beginning at 20.00.
Admission to all events is free of charge, and among those taking part in the Friday gala are the “El Esprefollo” group from Zarandona on the ouskirts of Murcia, the “Virgen de las Huertas” group from Lorca and the locals belonging to the Coros y Danzas Mar Menor group.
