ARCHIVED - June temperatures in March: Spain weather forecast Mar 10-12
Much of Spain will sizzle this weekend with temperatures exceeding 30ºC in several regions
Spain has left the unsettled month of February well and truly behind and March is getting off to a distinctly summery start, with the thermometers this weekend expected to exceed the 30ºC barrier for the first time in 2023.
In the coming days, daytime highs will be between 5 and 10ºC above normal in a good part of the country, and some areas of the Mediterranean will register temperatures up to 15ºC higher than usual for this time of year.
And the good news doesn’t stop there, as the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts that this good weather will last at least until the beginning of next week.
"Between Saturday and Monday it will even be possible to exceed 30ºC in points of the Valencian Community, Region of Murcia and points also in Andalucia, and even locally 32ºC, for example, in the cities of Valencia, Castellón or Murcia”, commented Rubén Del Campo, AEMET spokesperson.
The real difference will be felt from Friday March 10 though when the high pressure will scatter any lingering rain, and showers will be limited to Galicia and points of the Cantabrian Sea.
There will be a notable rise in temperature, with the mercury easily pushing past the high teens in most of Spain while the Mediterranean region can expect to exceed 25ºC.
Murcia and Alicante look set to share the title on Friday with both municipalities tipped to hit 27ºC.
Even with this upswing in temperature several regions have still been issued with weather alerts for Friday. Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Galicia and the Valencian Community can all expect strong winds while a yellow alert will be in place in Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country for rough seas.
There’s little change on the horizon for Saturday March 11: the day will be slightly cloudy with sunny spells for the most part and the only rain is forecast in Galicia, parts of the Bay of Biscay and the Pyrenees. The thermometers will continue to climb in the north and east of the country, tipping the scales at an average 25ºC along the Mediterranean and in the south.
However, cities like Malaga and Alicante will be bathed by a warm breeze from the west which could push the temperatures up to 30ºC, and even as high as 32ºC in Valencia, Murcia and Castellón.
A yellow weather warning for adverse sea conditions has been issued on Saturday in Galicia.
The unseasonably warm weather will continue into Sunday March 12 although the mercury will drop ever so slightly along the Mediterranean coast, while still hovering around the mid 20s in the likes of Alicante. Generally speaking though, the thermometers will exceed 20ºC in the entire country, climbing to between 30ºC and 32ºC once more in Castellón, Murcia and Valencia.
No weather alerts have been issued for Sunday.
