ARCHIVED - La Manga locals fight and win to keep Cartagena bus route
The line 20 bus will not be cancelled, as the Cartagena council previously proposed
After the announcement that the Cartagena-La Manga (Pedruchillo) bus route was going to be cancelled, a group of local residents from La Manga del Mar Menor has been fighting tooth and nail to keep the only public transport connection to Cartagena alive.
Thankfully, the Town Hall in Cartagena listened to the residents’ complaints and have decided to maintain line 20 and this route has been included in the newly released transport model, which will come into effect on Friday December 3.
The decision to maintain line 20 came on the same day that some La Manga residents had organised a protest outside of the municipal council’s office in La Manga (Consorcio La Manga), as they considered that this bus route was “the only transport option that allows residents and tourists to reach other areas within the municipality of Cartagena and La Unión” and noted that this bus line was also especially important for people travelling to medical appointments in Cartagena.
In addition, the new transport map also includes the new regional line 4 (Cabo de Palos to Veneziola) and line 6, which connects several Mar Menor towns and villages including Cabo de Palos, Los Alcázares, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar. In total, the transport model includes 16 bus routes in the Cartagena comarca and aims to strengthen connections between Cartagena, the coast and the surrounding municipalities.
