Landslides and flooding cause road closures across parts of Murcia due to the rain
Emergency services have reported rockfalls, flooding and difficult driving conditions in several municipalities following this weekend’s storms

The rain in the Region of Murcia over this weekend has brought hazardous driving conditions to several areas after landslides, flooding and debris blocked a number of roads.
The warning came after the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued a yellow weather alert for rain this Sunday March 8, which was later extended until 9pm. Although most of the day passed without any major incidents, emergency services reported several problems on roads in different parts of the region.
Rock and mud slides were reported on three routes in particular. These affected the RM-532 road in Cieza, the RM-B16 in Cehegín and the RM-516 in Mula.
According to the 112 emergency service, a stream was close to overflowing on the RM-532 road that links Mula and Cieza. Officials described the incidents as landslides, with rocks and mud sliding onto the road surface and blocking traffic.
As a result, access routes from Campillo to La Pila and from La Carrasquilla to Canara were cut off.
Problems were also reported in other municipalities. On the road between El Palmar and La Alberca, large pools of water formed on the roadway. In some places the water was deep enough to reach the doors of parked vehicles. Emergency services urged people to use alternative routes.
In Alcantarilla, landslides were recorded at kilometre 6 of the RM-C1 road. Meanwhile, further accumulations of water were reported on the RM-603, and several manhole covers were displaced on the road in front of Mercamurcia.
In Mula and also in Bullas, there was heavy hail this Sunday, and flooding on several downhill streets.
📢 Nos llegan videos de la localidad de Bullas, donde en estos momentos cae una granizada importante, también cae con fuerza según nuestros compañeros en Mula.

Road maintenance teams have been working to clear debris and restore normal traffic conditions. Authorities say the disruption was caused by an intense storm that passed through the north-west of the region.
Emergency services noted that the clean-up work has been made more difficult because it is taking place at night, when poor visibility slows operations.
The 112 emergency service has urged motorists to exercise caution if travelling in the affected areas. Drivers are advised to avoid these routes if possible and to use alternative roads where necessary. Authorities have also warned people to avoid approaching riverbeds during the stormy conditions.
Aemet has issued another yellow warning, this time for snowfall in the northwest of the region on Tuesday March 10. Residents in the affected areas are being asked to remain alert and take appropriate precautions.
