ARCHIVED - Last month was the one of the least sunny Aprils on record in Murcia
Rain fell in the Costa Cálida on 20 out of the 30 days in April
The general impression that the weather during April in the Costa Cálida was rather more typical of the UK than of the Region of Murcia has been confirmed by Aemet’s monthly summary, which reports that in the regional capital there were fewer hours of sunshine than in almost any other April since comparable records were first compiled in 1941.
Rain fell on 20 of the 30 days in the month, and although there were no torrential storms like those which characterized last spring the monthly figure of 60.5 millimetres was well above the historical average. Following a similarly wet March, the total rainfall so far this hydrological year (October to October) is now close to the historical average at 211.5 mm.
But it was the lack of sunshine which stood out during the month, with the 197 hours at the weather station in the city of Murcia being the second lowest April total on record, and at the same time the average daily maximum temperature throughout the Region was lower than is usually the case at 19ºC. The highest reading was taken in Archena on 6th April, at 29.5ºC, while in Cartagena the monthly average high of 18.6 degrees was the coolest for April since records were first kept in 1989.
