ARCHIVED - Little rain and higher-than-average temperatures forecast for autumn in Murcia region
October will be “warmer than normal” in Murcia, while the weather this week improves from Sunday
Yesterday night marked the official start of autumn in Spain, which looks set to be “warmer than normal and with little rainfall” according to meteorologist Francisco Martín. Residents in the Murcia region will welcome the news, as we wave goodbye to a rainy end to summer that has left flooding and destruction on the streets of Cartagena, Los Alcázares, Calasparra and Murcia city.
As of this Sunday, claims Mr Martín, “the atmosphere will stabilise and there will be no more rainfall”. Until then, cloudy skies will prevail and there could be occasional showers on Friday September 24 and Saturday September 25, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). These showers will be concentrated in the interior of the region, but from Sunday September 26 the weather will be sunnier and temperatures will begin to rise.
Hedging his bets, the meteorologist did not rule out the possibility of another storm like Filomena earlier this year, but said that it was “an exceptional case” and that “climatologically it is not the time”. In November, “it will rain little in general in almost all of Spain”.
