ARCHIVED - Lorca Council buys plot of land for dedicated green space in Ramonete

ARCHIVED ARTICLE

The authorities in Lorca have reiterated their commitment to the “well-being and environmental sustainability” of the Murcia municipality

ARCHIVED - Lorca Council buys plot of land for dedicated green space in Ramonete
With the enjoyment of residents and visitors to the Lorca district of Ramonete in mind, City Councillor Isidro Abellán has announced the purchase of a large plot of land that will become a dedicated green space for various leisure activities.

The deed of sale for the 916.72 square metre plot, which is located in the Plaza de la Ermita, was signed on September 26.

The Councillor for Heritage believes the project highlights the commitment of this government team, with the Mayor, Diego José Mateos, at the head, “to create new green areas throughout our large municipality and continue betting on welfare and environmental sustainability in Lorca”.

The move also ties in with the Spanish government’s commitment to environmental protection and the expansion of natural spaces, which was confirmed in the 2023 budget allocation this week.

Speaking about the City Council’s purchase on Monday October 3, Abellán explained that the park will be created in response to requests from several Ramonete residents and demonstrates Lorca’s interest in “the well-being and environmental sustainability” of the municipality.

The new leisure space in Ramonete will be developed in addition to several more projects which are already underway, such as the expansion and remodelling of the San Antonio park and the new green area planned on the Camino Viejo del Puerto. Also in the pipeline is a 221.37 metre squared park near the Rambla de Las Chatas and another natural space in the Alameda Virgen de las Huertas that will exceed 5,000 square metres.
