Los Alcazares joyrider accidentally ploughs car into the Mar Menor
Local Police have shared the story as a warning to motorists over a “wave of robberies”

“These types of people are aware of our every move and are looking for carelessness to be able to steal vehicles,” they stated in a post on their social media account.
To illustrate the point, they shared the story of a joyride that went wrong and which they managed to thwart this Wednesday, January 18.
“Last night, while the patrol was driving near a supermarket in the municipality, they observed a vehicle, which at first did not arouse any suspicion, but when they tried to catch up the driver stepped on the accelerator and began to flee,” they said.
“Due to the high speed at which the vehicle was travelling, the officers feared for the safety of road users. After several minutes of pursuit, the officers managed to get the driver into a dead end, as the beach was at the end of the street.
“When the driver of the vehicle realised this, he did not hesitate to jump out of the vehicle and began to flee on foot, until another vehicle picked him up and they managed to escape along the motorway.”
The concluded, “In the end, the vehicle ended up in the water due to the principle of inertia.”
Due to what they call “the wave of robberies” that the area is seeing, their police patrols are busy controlling all types of vehicles driving around at certain hours of the night.
They also have some final words of advice for anyone who believes they are witnessing a crime in progress.
“If you see a suspicious vehicle, try to inform us of the make, model, colour and, if possible, registration number. Never expose yourself to unnecessary risks.”
