ARCHIVED - Low-income families in Spain can now request aid of 200 euros
The aid will be available to individuals resident in Spain with an annual income of up to 27,000 euros
As part of its crisis measures to alleviate the financial consequences of the war in Ukraine, the Spanish government is providing aid of 200 euros to vulnerable, low-income families that can be requested from Wednesday February 15.
The aid is expected to reach 4.2 million households and aims to improve upon a similar scheme launched in 2022, when the money was only requested by 600,000 of the 2.7 million people expected.
The process has been greatly simplified this year and the income threshold has been increased in the hopes of reaching more families.
What is the 200 euro aid?
A single payment of 200 euros will be made to individuals with a low level of income and assets, who have either been self-employed, employed or in receipt of unemployment benefit at some point during 2022.
Who is eligible for the aid?
In order to receive the 200 euros, individuals must:
- Be habitually resident in Spain.
- Have been registered with Social Security at some time last year, either through being self-employed, receiving a salary or unemployment payments.
- Have not exceeded 27,000 euros in gross income or 75,000 euros in assets as of December 31 last year.
Who is excluded from aid?
Those who, as of December 31:
- Receive the Minimum Vital Income.
- Receive a pension.
Can a young person who lives with their parents ask for help?
Yes. In the case of people living together in the family home, the income of all cohabitants is taken into account and the total can’t exceed 27,000 euros per year.
If the sum of all income is under the threshold, then each family member is entitled to request the aid.
What is the deadline to request the aid?
This aid can be requested from February 15 to March 31 2023.
How do you apply?
Applications can be made via an electronic form available through the State Tax Administration Agency. Those requesting the 200 euros will need to have a Cl@ve, electronic certificate or DNI-e.
No documents are required to apply since the Tax Agency will collect the necessary information from Social Security and other public bodies. However, the Agency reserves the right to request any additional documentation it deems necessary.
How is the aid of 200 euros paid?
The aid will be paid by bank transfer. For this reason, individuals will have to provide bank account details at the time of application. If no payment has been received within three months of submitting the form, the application may be understood to have been rejected.
If a claim is rejected, applicants may file an appeal within a month.
The payment period is three months, so people who apply for the aid on the last day (March 31) can expect the money on June 30.
Is it necessary to pay tax on the 200 euros?
Yes. The aid will be taxed as a capital gain in Income Tax (IRPF) so it will need to be declared in the 2024 income statement.
The best way to apply for the 200 euros in aid and to file your Income Taxes is by contacting a qualified and experienced law firm to take care of it for you.
