Mango founder Isak Andic dies in hiking accident near Barcelona
The textile giant mourns the loss of its visionary leader
Isak Andic Ermay, founder and chairman of the global fashion brand Mango, tragically passed away on Saturday December 14 following a 150-metre fall while hiking near Barcelona, Spain. The 71-year-old businessman was on an excursion with family members in the Collbató saltpetre caves, located within the Montserrat mountain range.
Emergency services received notification of the accident at 12.39pm. The challenging terrain required the deployment of police patrols, a helicopter, and the mountain unit of the Mossos d’Esquadra to recover Andic’s body. He reportedly slipped while navigating a path and fell into a ravine.
Mango’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, issued a heartfelt statement: “It is with deep regret that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango, in an accident this Saturday.”
Ruiz praised Andic’s ‘visionary’ leadership, highlighting his role in shaping Mango’s global success and the values he instilled within the organisation. He described Andic’s passing as leaving “a huge void”, but pledged to honour his legacy by continuing to build on his ‘ambitious’ vision for the company.
Andic’s contributions to the fashion industry and his commitment to excellence have left an enduring legacy. He is survived by his wife and son.
