Manhunt launched in Spain for extremely dangerous French boy
The 12-year-old, wanted for attempted murder in France, is believed to have fled to Spain with a family member
A massive manhunt has been launched for a missing 12-year-old boy who fled France earlier this week and is described as “a dangerous individual” by the authorities. He is wanted in connection with an attempted homicide and is now believed to be hiding out in Spain.
12-year-old Lyam Djitli originally hails from Saint-Lizier, Ariège, and vanished from a youth welfare institution in Lavelanet-de-Commingues (Haute-Garonne), according to French media reports. Law enforcement believes he may have hitched a ride with a relative, possibly his maternal grandparents or aunt.
Haute-Garonne gendarmes said in a statement:
"The child would be likely to have gotten into the car with someone (a relative of his mother, his grandmother or other).
"He left WITHOUT a cell phone and with a backpack and some belongings."
It’s understood that the boy’s mother, Marine Da Silva, had previously been "deprived of her parental rights" and both police and social services have been unable to contact her.
However, according to Ms Da Silva's other son, she is currently staying with relatives in Spain, which is why the authorities believe young Lyam may have made his way there.
Lyam is 150cm tall, of "normal build" and has curly black hair.
"Young Lyam would therefore be likely to go to SPAIN with his mother or another relative. Dangerous individual, actively sought by the police for attempted homicide," the police statement concluded.
