March 21 Celebrate Holi, the Indian festival of colours, in AlmerÃa
The Templo de Krishna in the Almería village of Gérgal is hosting an activity-packed day, including the famous colour throwing!
You’re sure to have seen the pictures before – a crowd of exhausted, panting faces covered in coloured powder and grinning from ear to ear. This is the Hindu festival of Holi, the original colour powder party.
This spring festival is a traditional way to celebrate new life and the triumph of good over evil as we enter into spring, and there is a place in southeast Spain where you can go to be a part of it!
The Templo de Krishna in the small town of Gérgal (Almería) is a centre dedicated to the spread of Bhakti Yoga, and every year they host a great big, fun Holi festival celebration.
This year, the Holi 2026 festival at the Templo de Krishna is taking place on Saturday March 21, and is bigger and better than ever, with a schedule of events that runs all day from 10.30am to 8pm.
The programme includes a delicious vegan paella, the group singing of kirtan songs and dances, a chi-kung class, a workshop on mindfulness and, of course, the famous colour battle to the sound of DJ HOLI Damodar Das!
All this and much more is planned for the day, which, while being a fun and community-driven event, is also a holy day full of life and light and designed to welcome in the spring in style.
