ARCHIVED - May 21 Museums Night in Cartagena
Free visits, tours, concerts, workshops, activities and much more on one of the most popular nights of the year in Cartagena
In recent years the Night of the Museums has become one of the most popular dates in the calendar in the historic city of Cartagena, and as the city embraces the post-pandemic atmosphere a huge turn-out is expected at the free events and tours which are being held not only during the evening of May 21 but throughout the weekend.
Many of the numerous museums in Cartagena will be open until 2.00 in the morning, and there are a host of activities, workshops, live music events and other entertainments scheduled throughout the evening.
The sheer scale of the programme makes translating it a massive job (and unfortunately the Town Hall website contains the information only in Spanish), but the following is a list of the main venues. The recommendation is to pick up a map and leaflet once in Cartagena for further orientation! The tourist office should be open on the corner of the Palacio Consistorial and there are likely to be other information points where leaflets and maps can be collected.
Main venues and opening times May 21:
Museo del Teatro Romano: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Museo from Arte Moderno (Muram) and Palacio de Aguirre: from 11.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 01.00.
Museo Arqueológico Municipal Enrique Escudero de Castro: 11.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 1.00.
Museo Histórico Militar: from 09.00 to 14.00 and 19.00 to 01.00.
Archivo Municipal: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Museo Nacional de Arqueología Subacuática (ARQUA): from 10.00 to 01.00.
Museo Naval / Sala Isaac Peral: from 10.00 to 14.00 and 19.00 to 01.00.
Centro de Interpretación Muralla Púnica: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Civil War Air Raid Shelter Museum: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Castillo de la Concepción: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Casa de la Fortuna: from 10.00 to 15.00.
Augusteum: from 10.00 to 15.00.
Fuerte de Navidad: from 11.00 to 17:30.
Museo del Foro Romano Molinete: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Museo del Vidrio. MUVI: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Museo Etnográfico de los Puertos de Santa Bárbara: from 10.00 to 14.00.
Museo Teatro Apolo del Algar: from 11.00 to 14.00.
Museo Fundación Boyer Tresaco: from 11.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 22.00.
Note: Parking can be very challenging on this evening (see Parking underground car parks and parking open areas) as there are so many people in the city, so allow plenty of time. Time and patience are also needed to move between concerts and it is frequently not possible to get into the events as space is limited, so select one or two, allow time to get there and don't try to jam in too much!
