There has been an increase of 22 confirmed cases in Spain over the weekend
The Ministry of Health in Spain has reported that 120 cases of monkeypox have now been confirmed, an increase of 22 infections since Friday.
The majority of confirmed cases (76) have been diagnosed in Madrid including one woman, who is a secondary contact linked to another infection.
Overall, since the outbreak was first discovered, 245 samples belonging to suspected monkeypox cases have been sent to the Laboratory of the National Centre for Microbiology of the Carlos III Health Institute, of which 125 have tested negative.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Portugal, the health authorities reported that the number of cases increased by 22 since Friday to 96 on Monday May 30, but there is usually a spike in both Spain and Portugal over the weekend as data isn’t reported on Saturday and Sunday.
