ARCHIVED - Motorway into La Manga being prepared for heavy rain
Murcia road workers are preparing roadside ditches to drain large quantities of rainwater
The high-speed route into La Manga del Mar Menor (RM-12) is being prepared for the imminent autumn rain this week as part of the annual road conservation programme in the Region of Murcia.
The 523 linear metres of ditches which stretch between the 7.9 and 10.5 km markers of the RM-12 will be undergoing extensive cleaning and improvement to increase drainage capacity and avoid flooding incidents.
Road staff are reprofiling and concreting the ditch between the right-hand lane and the service road, while the pipes in the area were exhaustively cleaned earlier this year.
This road is the only entrance to the region’s most popular tourist spot, La Manga, and has an average traffic flow of 29,005 vehicles per day, making the route the most highly frequented in the Region of Murcia.
So far this year, the regional government has invested a total of 225,000 euros into the RM-12, including repainting the horizontal signage before the summer season.
