Murcia Airport passenger numbers for 2024 have been slightly better than last year
The growth for the month of April has been less than 1%, while for the year so far it has been nearly 10%
The Region of Murcia International Airport registered 91,818 passengers in April 2024, almost half of the nearly 184,000 people who have used the airport so far this year. That’s not surprising when you consider that April was the first full month of the start of the summer flight season and we had Easter in there to give tourism a bit of a boost.
Even so, the April figures are only slightly higher than for the same month last year – an increase of just 0.7%, or 597 people. Overall growth for the period of January to April is 9.4% compared with the same period last year.
While international passengers were once again the majority, there has been a marked increase in Spanish passengers flying in and out of Corvera Airport, ostensibly thanks to the Madrid and Barcelona flights that started last December.
But compared to the figures for 2019, the year the airport opened, the balance for the month of April shows a 17.7% decrease. Alicante airport, meanwhile, has surpassed its pre-pandemic figures by 7% and has managed to break its own records every month this year so far.
All the new flight paths to be added for the summer at Murcia Airport have already begun, with the exception of Bilbao, which starts on June 2, and Porto in Portugal, which starts in July.
Airport managers will be hoping that as the summer tourist season kicks into high gear come the school holidays, there will be many more passengers flying in and out of Murcia Airport, as the more demand there is for people to use the airport, the more airlines will see the benefit of running more flights and routes.
