The port city of Cartagena has earned recognition as the ‘Best Spanish Seaside Town for History’ by the travel experts at Which?
Known for its captivating blend of history and coastal charm, Cartagena stands as a premier destination for travellers eager to immerse themselves in Spain's storied past.
What makes Cartagena shine is its impressive line-up of “five-star” tourist attractions, according to Which? Noteworthy highlights include the first-century Roman Amphitheatre and the meticulously maintained Contemporary Bathhouse and Arcade at Barrio del Foro Romano.

Today, Cartagena remains a vital maritime stronghold, housing a bustling naval shipyard and serving as a regular stopover point for cruises. While the influx of tourists contributes to a less serene atmosphere, earning Cartagena just two stars for tranquillity, the wealth of historical attractions easily offsets this minor inconvenience.
Among Cartagena's prized attractions are the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology, the Roman Theatre Museum and the Municipal Archaeology Museum. Additional points of interest include the mysterious Torre Ciega, the single surviving structure of the former Roman Necropolis, and the magnificent Roman Theatre of Cartagena, recently restored and expanded into a dedicated exhibition space.

As an added bonus, Cartagena is easy to get to from the UK as Murcia Airport is just 25 kilometres away.
