Murcia on yellow alert for heavy rain today
The yellow weather warning has been activated in the Region of Murcia this Tuesday
The State Meteorological Agency in Spain, Aemet, has issued a yellow weather alert for the Region of Murcia this Tuesday September 19 for the risk of heavy rain storms.
Last Friday, September 15, the rain left more than 200 incidents reported to the Emergency Coordination Center 112 of the Region, especially in Murcia city. Many of the calls to 112 were about flooding in basements, people trapped inside their vehicle or about fires after lightning strikes in some areas.
Now, the rain is back and the current warning is for rainfall that could exceed 20mm in the Altiplano, Northwest, Vega del Segura, Lorca, Águilas, Valle del Guadalentín, Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón.
The yellow-level alert will remain in place from three in the afternoon until midnight. There is currently no warning in place for Wednesday 20, but the neighbouring province of Alicante to the north will still be on alert as the rain continues.
Over the course of this week, the weather is forecast to dry up, albeit with occasional localised showers, and temperatures will gradually begin to fall.
These rains in the run-up to autumn come after a summer in Murcia which was the second hottest on record.
