Murcia photo of the month January 2026
The LADCC competition topic of “Water” should have been a relatively easy topic to photograph for those of us fortunate to be living near the Mar Menor, Murcia. However, the members were given a very open-ended topic title with no brief which, as it turned out, provided a vast array of different interpretations. We had many cleverly produced photos encompassing beautiful sunsets, waterscapes, fountains, pools, canals, dripping taps, and even a Christmas water scene. As a result, some very high scores were given by the members.
However, like London buses when two come along at once (do they really?), we had the impressive scenario that two photos scored higher than in any other monthly photo competition this year. Second placed Klas Liesen was very unfortunate in that his score would have won any of 2025’s other monthly competitions.
Our winner, however, with a fantastic score was Gary Hull’s “Waiting for the drip”, a beautifully taken photo of water dripping from ice blocks. This was a constructed photo using a coloured backdrop to emphasise the block of ice and a light source. Gary also had a very patient wife using a hair dryer to make the ice melt while he patiently waited to capture the very moment that the water dropped from the ice.

Second placed Klas, a relatively new member to LADCC, managed to capture a beautiful moment of the breaking sea at sunset while visiting Villajoyosa. He was on his way back to the car park when he saw the beautiful light shining through the breaking surf. His waiting wife, however, was more concerned about the ticket for the car park running out rather than Klas’ excitement at capturing such a delightful photo (LADCC have trained him well, haha!). The dancing of the seagulls over the breaking waves really captured a beautiful moment and we are delighted that his wife remained patient and also managed to avoid any parking ticket!

LADCC Photo of the Year 2025
The 12 monthly winning images were then voted on by club members to find their Photo of the Year 2025. As all the images were previous winners they did not need to be ‘judged’ technically and artistically again so each member just had to pick their favourite from the twelve. The LADCC Photo of the Year 2025 was Gary’s “Waiting for the drip”, see above! Debra Duncan was a very close second with her portrait “In the shadow”.

We begin 2026 with our “Open” category which allows our members to enter photos on any theme they like. This enables them to play to their strengths, be it with their traditional camera or a mobile phone, which are now becoming more and more sophisticated.
This popular club usually meets twice a month, at the
Las Claras Centre in Los Alcázares, on the first Tuesday of every month and, often, an outing towards the end of the month, where the group gets together to collectively work on the topic for the monthly competition. With modern day technology we can all keep in contact for training sessions, sharing knowledge etc via ‘group chats’.
We are interested in hearing from anyone who would like to join us when the opportunity arises. You will be put on a waiting list and be contacted when a space becomes available. If you would like more information about the Club please do not hesitate to look at our website,
