ARCHIVED - Murcia suffered through second hottest June in history
The average temperature throughout the Region was 2.6 degrees warmer than normal
All of Spain sweltered in an unexpected heatwave at the end of June but the summer weather arrived much earlier in the Region of Murcia, with the average monthly temperature peaking at 24.7ºC, that’s a scorching 2.6ºC warmer than a normal year. In fact, in 2022 Murcianos basked in the second hottest June in history, just slightly behind the same month in 2012.
There has been little relief at night-time either, with the average minimum temperature hovering at 16.9ºC, around a degree and a half hotter than usual and the fourth warmest on record, behind 2017, 2012 and 2003.

Of course, the average temperatures don’t paint the entire picture as several municipalities in the Region positively boiled last month. Murcia and Alcantarilla in particular blasted through the norm, registering the highest figures in 39 and 81 years, respectively, and there is little change expected this week, when the mercury will struggle to dip below 37ºC in several areas.
June was also an exceptionally dry month, with virtually no rain in the first 20 days. However, March and April were extremely damp and this affected the accumulated rainfall for the region overall, with the period between October 2021 and June 2022 being marked as the second wettest in 62 years.
