Near miss on the Bolnuevo-Cartagena road as bus swerves to avoid biker overtaking on a bend
The road to La Azohía is a “nightmare scenario” due to dangerous motorcyclists
A serious road accident that could have ended in death was narrowly avoided near Canteras this weekend after a group of bikers were nearly flattened by a bus travelling from Bolnuevo to Cartagena.
The incident took place on Saturday morning, October 1, with the team of bikers travelling in the opposite direction, towards Bolnuevo.
Apparently, one of the bikers “had just made a daring overtake of his group” when the bus approached around the bend, heading straight for the rider who was overtaking,
“The driver managed to stop with seconds to spare,” she said. “The bus driver was obviously a serious pro and commented on it as he drove away.”
She also expressed her amazement that nothing worse than a scary fall befell the ‘daredevil’ biker.
“I am not in the least doubt that if it had been a car passenger, the outcome would have been very different!”
She described the incident as a ‘chilling event’, “especially the moment when the bikers discovered that their friend had survived.”
This isn’t the first time there has been a near tragedy on this road. The blind corners and the often dangerous drivers are a disaster waiting to happen.
“I constantly travel on this road to La Azohía at weekends and it is a nightmare scenario with these groups of bikers bearing down on you. You just know you’re a hair’s breadth away from a serious pile up.”
There is no doubt as to the fact that there should be more oversight to prevent any real damage being done, as it’s only a matter of time.
“These ‘risk taking idiots’ should be barred from indulging in such dangerous behaviour on the public highways.”
