ARCHIVED - New travel rules between England and Spain to come at the end of October
The UK has changed its traffic light system, and is now planning further changes at the end of this month
The rules for travelling to England from Spain changed on Monday October 4 at 4am. The traffic light system, which divided countries into ‘green’, ‘amber’ and ‘red’ has been replaced by a single ‘red list’ for countries that are not safe to visit. Travel restrictions have been eased for countries not on the red list in the past 10 days.
This means that fully vaccinated people travelling to England from Spain, which is not on the red list, will need to fill out a passenger locator form on arrival and take a day 2 Covid test after they arrive. Travellers will no longer need to take a test before flying to England and do not need to self-isolate when they arrive.
Unvaccinated children going from Spain to England do not need to self-isolate upon arrival.
The rules for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are different as they are governed by the devolved parliaments. People going from Spain to any of these three countries still have to take a Covid test before flying.

As of October 4, travellers who have had two doses of a mix of eligible vaccines, such as a combination of AstraZeneca and Pfizer, will now be recognised as fully vaccinated.
Passengers who aren’t fully vaccinated with authorised vaccines, including people who have had Covid-19 and one jab, will still have to:
- take a pre-departure Covid test
- fill in a passenger locator form before they travel
- take a day 2 and day 8 PCR test
- self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival in England
Unvaccinated passengers who wish to shorten their isolation period can also make use of the ‘Test to Release’, where they can leave isolation if they test negative.
New England travel rules after October
The government has also announced that as of late October, passengers who have a stopover to change flights or international trains during their journey to England will be allowed to follow the measures of the country they are initially coming from, rather than any countries they have transited through as part of their journey.
