ARCHIVED - Nightlife venues in Spain request Covid passports for Christmas
Spain by Night has asked that the vaccine cert be rolled out in all regions
While many autonomous communities, such as Valencia and Catalonia, have already approved the use of Covid passports for patrons to enter nightlife venues, the National Federation of Leisure and Entertainment Entrepreneurs (Spain by Night) is once again pushing the Spanish government to implement the system nationally so that health and safety rules are common across all regions.
The group has stressed that this measure is essential to ensure the survival of the sector over the Christmas period.
The national employer’s association has reiterated its stance that the most important tool against Covid is the vaccination campaign, and argues that making the passports mandatory across the board would motivate the public, and particularly younger people, to get the jab.
Spain by Night has confirmed that its position is based on objective data and has called on the government to provide “the ability to react and anticipate” over the festive period, “to save lives and protect the economy” of the sector, which has only just started to recover after 20 months at the mercy of the pandemic.
It is estimated that the closure of discos and nightclubs has resulted in economic losses of more than half a million euros per premises in Spain.
