November 13 Mozart’s Requiem in Murcia cathedral
The Orfeón Fernández Caballero Choir and the Ciudad de Murcia orchestra at Murcia cathedral
Many view Mozart’s Requiem as one of the finest pieces of music ever written, and on November 13 it is being performed in perhaps the most imposing and impressive setting in the Region of Murcia, the cathedral of Santa María in the regional capital.
The soloists are Andrea Fernández, María Morellá, Pablo Martínez and Valentín Miralles Guiomar Cantó, Lola Casariego, José María Delicado and Antonio Torres, and in all over 100 people are taking part in the performance of this work, which is acknowledged as one of Mozart’s finest. He composed part of it in late 1791 but it was still not finished when he died in December, and was only definitively attributed to him when it was performed as a benefit concert for his widow Constanze.
As those who have seen the film "Amadeus" will remember, some believe that Mozart was writing for an unknown commissioner, and eventually thought that he was writing it for his own funeral.
The concert begins at 20.30 and admission is completely free of charge.
