November 14 to 16 Visit this replica Spanish galleon in Puerto de Mazarrón
The Galeón Andalucía is identical to the Empire-building galleons used by Spain from the 16th to 18th century
The Andalucía, a unique replica of a true Spanish galleon of the kind which were used between the 16th and 18th century during the Golden Age of Spanish Empire building is moored and open to visitors in Puerto de Mazarrón from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th November.
For centuries these were the vessels which provided a constant link between Spain and the territories of the New World and the Pacific, and this example is 55 metres long and made of pine and iroko (a hardwood tree from western Africa). It has four masts with a total sail area of 930 square metres, and is a real floating museum of Spanish maritime history.
In 2010 the Andalucía sailed from Sevilla to the Expo Shanghai in China and in 2013 she crossed the Atlantic to spend for years in America, visiting Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico and Canada as well as the USA as she moored in 70 cities including New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Miami, San Juan de Puerto Rico, Toronto and Quebec.
Visitors are welcome in Puerto de Mazarrón from 14th to 16th November between 10.00 and 18.30 with tickets available for 10 euros (adults) and 5 euros (children) online here. A family ticket is also available for 25 euros, providing admission for 2 adults and up to 3 children.
