November 9 Guided visit to the ancient Argaric settlement of La Bastida in Totana
A chance to see the 4,000-year-old “Troy of the West” just outside the town of Totana
One of the most fascinating ancient archaeological sites of south-eastern Spain is La Bastida, which was an Argaric settlement just outside the modern town of Totana as long as 4,000 years ago.
This is a chance to visit the site, which it is believed was at one time one of the most powerful Bronze Age towns in western Europe and has even been described as The Troy of the West. The visit begins at the site itself (google maps here) and participants are asked to arrive beforehand so as to avoid delays.
Comfortable clothes and footwear are recommended, as is drinking water, and prior registration is required here. Children up to 12 years old may visit free of charge, and the tour begins at 12.00.
Further information is available from the tourist office of Totana (Plaza de la Balsa Vieja, telephone 968 418153 Monday to Saturday 9.00 to 14.00, email info@conexioncultura.es), or from Conexión Cultura (telephone 968 069202, email info@conexioncultura.es).
