Overview of the beaches of Guardamar del Segura
See the beaches in Guardamar del Segura, Spain
To talk about the beaches of Guardamar del Segura is, in some ways, rather misleading: the coastline of the municipality is marked by one 11-kilometre-long stretch of fine sand, and the division between one beach and another is not marked by natural geographical features such as headlands of cliffs, but is made on what at times seems a fairly arbitrary basis.
However, some of them are far more easily accessed than others due to the presence or absence of dunes, and this means that while some become very crowded in summer others are far less densely populated.
Running from south to north the beaches are as follows:
Playa de las Ortigas / Platja de les Ortigues:
This area runs from the boundary with the municipality of Torrevieja in La Mata for almost 1.5 kilometres, and is separated from the Pinomar urbanization by extensive natural dunes.

Playa del Campo / Platja del Camp:
Two kilometres of fine golden sand which are reached by crossing a densely vegetated part of the dunes, rich not only in pine trees but also in palm trees and eucalyptus. Again, this beach is not flanked by buildings, and is perfect for a quiet day’s sunbathing and swimming.

Playa del Moncayo / Platja del Montcaio:
Located outside the southern end of the town itself, this beach has more facilities than the previous two and boasts a Blue Flag for quality services and installations.

Playa de la Roqueta / Platja de la Roqueta:
This beach runs for over a kilometre along the southern half of the town centre, and is endowed with numerous facilities and services including access for the disabled. Blue Flag for quality.

Playa Centro / Platja Centre:
The shortest stretch of beach is the most urban one, lying downhill from the Town Hall and the main town centre area, just to the south of the dunes which lead up to the mouth of the River Segura.

Playa Babilonia / Platja de la Babilònia:
Located alongside the eastern edge of the protected dunes of the Parque Alfonso XIII this beach is flanked by small houses, remnants from the old town. This part of the shore is close to the town centre but, on account of the dunes, has a far less urban feel to it.

Platya de los Viveros / Platja dels Vivers:
Two kilometres of unspoilt sandy beach immediately to the south of the River Segura, accessed from the Playa de Babilonia, from the marina or via the dunes which lie behind the beach. This is the northernmost beach of the Vega Baja area of the province of Alicante.

Playa de los Tusales / Platja dels Tossals:
A nudist beach on the northern bank of the River Segura, again accessed via extensive dunes. This is the northernmost beach of the municipality and shares the border with Elche.
