ARCHIVED - Petrol prices drop in Spain in time for May bank holiday
A litre of diesel has also fallen below 1.5 euros in Spain this week
With the sun shining and scarcely a drop of rain on the horizon, around 6.5 million people across Spain are expected to take to the roads this coming long weekend to escape the heat of the cities and head to the cooler mountains and coasts.
And motorists are in luck, as the price of fuel has continued its downward trajectory and has now hit some of the lowest figures this year.
Friday April 28 is a good day to head to the pumps as a litre of diesel has fallen by 1.51% compared to this time last week, to just 1.496 euros. This low price hasn’t been seen since the tail end of December, and that was when the government’s 20 cent discount was still in place; to find a match without the fuel bonus, you’d have to go back before the Ukrainian war.
Petrol is also following suit after three weeks of increases. A litre of unleaded has fallen by 0.61% to 1.641 euros.
So if you’re filling up before a journey this weekend, an average 55-litre tank of super-95 will set you back 90.25 euros, which is relatively cheap but still 1.32 euros more than this time last year.
Bigger savings can be found for diesel drivers, since a full tank will cost 82.28 euros, which is a significant 8.30 euros less expensive than April 2022.
Fuel prices certainly aren’t where we’d like them to be, but the cost is still a far cry from the record-breaking month of June, when petrol was 14.89% pricier and diesel was a whopping 20.26% more expensive.
