ARCHIVED - Playa Honda medical centre reopens after refurbishment work is finally completed
There will be one doctor and one nurse on duty for three and a half hours a day on weekdays

The Playa Honda health clinic has reopened this Monday, May 23, after the refurbishment work on the building was finally completed after several months.
From this week onwards, there will be a medical team available at the surgery, which is officially known as the ‘Consultorio de Atención Primaria Playa Honda-Playa Paraíso’, made up of a GP, a nurse and an administrative assistant, who will offer medical assistance during their usual hours, from Monday to Friday, between 11.30am and 3pm.
The Playa Honda clinic serves 845 registered people, all users over the age of 14, and is a subsidiary of the main health centre in La Manga, which serves a total of 8,692 people.
The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, attended the reopening of the centre this morning, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín and the councillor for Coastal Areas, Cristina Pérez, as well as other members of the corporation, who were accompanied by the manager of Area II of Health, José Sedes and neighbourhood representatives of Playa Honda.
“From Cartagena City Council we carried out the refurbishment so that residents would have a health centre in good condition and a perfectly equipped medical centre,” said the mayor. “The infrastructure meets the best conditions to provide the residents with the service they deserve in this area.”

Arroyo also said that the services “will be expanded later as primary care is reinforced with more specialists and more doctors” and asked that “as these professionals are incorporated, the Playa Honda clinic should be taken into account so that it becomes one of the first in the Murcian Health Service to reinforce its services.”
For the residents of Playa Honda, the refurbishment of the surgery is “a real achievement after having fought for more than twenty years for this to be possible”, said Paqui Alcaraz, neighbourhood representative of Playa Honda and president of the Playa Honda Women’s Association.
