Population data for the Region of Murcia: how many foreigners live in Murcia?
Spain’s National Statistics Institute has released an advance copy of its latest census figures
The latest provisional census is in with the population figures for the Region of Murcia, and it shows that the number of people living in the Region continues to grow.
The overall population has increased once again, according to the provisional data from the National Statistics Institute (INE). Specifically, the regional population increased by 0.28% and places the overall figure at 1,561,327 inhabitants as of July 1 this year.
Percentage-wise, this makes the region of Murcia the fifth fastest growing autonomous community in Spain, with a number identical to the Spanish average and behind the communities of the Balearic Islands (0.58%), Catalonia (0.51%), Madrid (0.45%) and the Valencian Community (0.44%).
In total, the official population of Spain rose by 135,186 people during the second quarter of this year to stand at 48,345,223 people.
Population data broken down
Of the total number of registered inhabitants of the Region of Murcia, 782,496 are men and 778,831 are women.
People with Spanish nationality make up 85% of the population (1,318,317 people: 626,071 men and 637,628 women), while the rest are foreign citizens (243,010 people: 156,425 men and 141,203 women).
The largest age group in the Region is 45-49 years old with 131,419 people, followed by the 40-44-year-old age group with 124,842 people. In other words, the largest segment is the generation born between 1973 and 1983.
The Region of Murcia is the eighth most populated of the 17 communities in Spain and the seventh most inhabited of its 50 provinces. Ahead of the Region are the provinces of Malaga (1,696,955), Alicante (1,887,036), Seville (1,950,056), Valencia (2,593,243), Barcelona (5,702,262) and Madrid (6,726,640).
This provisional census data from the INE is not broken down by nationality, but according to the advance of the census for the year 2022, the majority nationality of the 226,431 foreigners in the Region is Moroccan, with 92,299. Well behind them are those from the United Kingdom (17,523), Ecuador (16,609) and Romania (10,328).
