ARCHIVED - Puerto de Mazarron hosts naval modeling exhibition until September 12
Puerto de Mazarrón will be home to the ‘Aires de mar’ naval exhibition until September 12
Opening on Thursday, July 15, the exhibition housed at the Casa del Mar in Puerto de Mazarrón showcases handcrafted maritime models by acclaimed Alhameño artist José Cerón Munuera.
Unsurprisingly giving its location, in the Puerto de Mazarrón, the Casa del Mar has a long tradition of hosting events linked to the sea and the launch of the ‘Aires de mar’ exhibition is all the more poignant given that it was inaugurated on the eve of the festival of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors.
During the event on Thursday, Mr Cerón expressed his gratitude at the opportunity to display his work, and added that "this exhibition is a tribute to all the sailors who have lost their lives at sea."
Running from July 15 to September 12, a replica of the Phoenician Ship, also crafted by the artist, will be on display in the Interpretation Centre.
José Cerón’s love affair with model making began when he was just twenty years old, and he has built more than 40 naval models since then. His works are made with wood carvings, mounted and painted by hand. His unique pieces have already been exhibited in important venues such as the Naval Museum of Cartagena and focus mainly on ships from the 18th century and earlier.
