Radical weather change brings October heatwave: Spain forecast Oct 1-5
After days of heavy rain, Spain is now set for clear skies and summer-like temperatures

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and Meteored say that from midweek, much of the country will be under stable, anticyclonic conditions. This means calm weather, lots of sunshine and much warmer than usual temperatures that will feel more like summer than early autumn.
As the remnants of storm Gabrielle move away to the east, the weather across Spain will settle. A few showers may still crop up in the southeast of the country and around the Strait of Gibraltar, but these will be much lighter than in recent days. For the rest of the country, the forecast is for clear skies with perhaps some thin, high clouds. The Canary Islands will also see an improvement, although there the temperatures will be steady or only slightly cooler.
The return of the heat is set to be the most striking change. Aemet has warned that temperatures will climb through the week, in some places reaching up to 6°C above the average for this time of year. In Andalucía and the Guadiana plains, values above 30°C are expected. The Guadalquivir Valley and parts of the southeast could even see highs of 34 to 36°C. On the northern plateau, daytime temperatures could edge close to 30°C.
This warm spell, often called an ‘Indian summer,’ is forecast to last until at least the weekend. On Thursday October 2 and Friday October 3, most of Spain should see clear, sunny weather with highs between 25 and 30°C in many provincial capitals. A weak front could bring some rain to the far north on Saturday October 4, but elsewhere the warmth and sunshine should continue.
Looking ahead to Sunday October 5, the weather becomes a little harder to predict, but at the moment the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) is expecting a front to sweep in, resulting in a much cloudier day and overcast skies in the north.
Daytime temperatures should inch up in inland areas of the south but Sunday night will be much cooler than earlier in the week.
After the recent unsettled weather, Spain is now facing an unusually hot start to October, giving many residents and visitors an unexpected taste of summer.
