ARCHIVED - Rain in northern Spain and 20 degrees in the south: weather forecast Dec 26-29
It will also be a rainy post-Christmas week in Spain’s Canary Islands
In this week between Christmas and the start of the New Year, it will be rainy in the north of Spain, in Galicia and Asturias, and sunny in the southern half of the country, in Andalucía and Murcia. In the Canary Islands, meanwhile, orange and yellow weather warnings have been activated for heavy rainfall too.
On Monday December 26, Boxing Day, everywhere south of Valladolid will be sunny with maximum daytime temperatures in the mid-20s, minus the Canary Islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, which will experience high winds and driving rain, as will the northwestern corner of the country. In the Balearic Islands, there will be significant fog, but the temperature will still be pleasant.
Tuesday December 27 will be similar, but actually drier in the north. Night-time minimum temperatures will be as cold as 4ºC in the north in Galicia, but as warm as 12 or 15ºC in parts of Andalucía.
Wednesday 28 may be a bit cooler, especially as a wet weatherfront sweeps from the Atlantic Ocean. The rains and thunderstorms will come in from the northwestern part of Spain on Wednesday morning, putting Galicia on yellow alert for the possibility of flooding, and will reach down to Madrid in the centre by nightfall.
This torrential rain will move down to Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura on Thursday, but will leave Barcelona, Catalonia, Valencia, Alicante and the south of the country untouched.
This game of two halves is likely to continue as we come into New Year’s Eve.
