Rain in the north, 40 degrees in the south: Spain weather forecast July 8-11
Forecasters expect it to be “somewhat cooler than normal” in some parts of Spain this week

After a stifling weekend in much of Spain, meteorologists are predicting another game of two halves this week: cool weather and plenty of rain will be the order of the day in the north, while the heat continues to intensify in the south and east of the country, reaching a sweltering 40ºC in many parts.
But unusually for July, the weather will remain rather unstable, and the next few days “will be somewhat cooler than normal” in the west of Spain and in the centre of the country. That’s according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which points out that even the extreme heat in the south “will not be widespread or long-lasting.”
The mercury will begin to climb on Monday July 8, especially in the north of Spain, but an approaching Atlantic front will result in overcast skies and rainfall later in the day.
It will be mostly bright and sunny in the rest of the country will some high clouds.
On Tuesday July 9, the northwest can again expect locally heavy or persistent showers, which will be especially abundant in the likes of Galicia and Asturias. This is in marked contrast to southern Spain, where the temperatures will shoot up, reaching a scorching 38ºC in Cordoba and other parts of Andalucía.
As we hit the middle of the week, the weather should level out a bit in the north and any weak rainfall will be confined to northern Galicia and Cantabria. Meanwhile, the heat will really start to intensify on Wednesday July 10, exceeding 36ºC in large areas of the south and depressions in the northeast, and even 38ºC in parts of the Guadalquivir and Segura rivers.
Yellow alerts for high temperatures have been issued in Andalucía, Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community.
On Thursday July 11, the stable weather will extend to most of the country, with isolated rain only in the Pyrenees. There’s also a chance of dry storms or very light showers along the east coast.
So far no weather warnings have been issued, but temperatures are expected to rise across the board. Daytime temperatures will soar past 35ºC in most of southern Spain and could even reach 40ºC in the valleys of the Guadalquivir and Segura. Night-time temperatures will also be very high in much of the south and east.
